BBFK: Nonprofit PPP Loans Watchdog IL

This week we have two groups from Illinois, Young Men's Christian Association Of Chicago and Chicago Zoological Society.

Some questions we have for Young Men's Christian Association Of Chicago are:

  1. Why did you take out a PPP loan for $10 million when the organization has over $150 million net assets?

  2. How did you lose $13 million in one year and still pay your CEO over $600k??

  3. Why did you ask for more government funding when you already received $13 million from the government?

  4. Why do you have a pension cost of $2.6 million?

  5. Over $120 million in publicly traded/other securities, but you thought it would be better to take from the taxpayers rather than your own accounts?

  6. Why have you spent over $100 million in lobbying?

  7. Please tell us more about your 6 other related organizations?

Some questions we have for Chicago Zoological Society are:

  1. Why did you take out a PPP loan for $6.39 million when the organization has over $150 million net assets?

  2. Why did you ask for more government funding when you already received over $14 million from the government?

  3. Why are employee benefits 3x payroll taxes?

We reached out to Young Men's Christian Association Of Chicago and Chicago Zoological Society in order to ask them about these alarming points we came across but  they never responded for comment.

In conclusion, Young Men's Christian Association Of Chicago and Chicago Zoological Society should give the money back just like Fortune 500 companies did, but with a twist. Half going back to the government and the other half going back to Building Blocks for Kids. Wintrust Bank, National Association and BMO Harris Bank National Association can give back any revenue made (penalty should double that amount) for creating this loan. Not sure what the government will do with their half, yet BBFK knows exactly what we will do with our portion.

Building Blocks for Kids would get a total amount of $8,195,000. Here is how that breakdown of that money will look like:

  • $65,000 towards our website.

  • $8,130,000 for 271 classrooms in Illinois

    • Helping 271 teachers, over 7,500 students with financial literacy and career discovery education for a full year. To learn more about the BBFK: MORE Program visit: https://bbfkids.org/
