BBFK: Nonprofit PPP Loans Watchdog HI

This week we have Hawaii and the group in discussion is University Clinical Education & Research Associates. Some questions we have for this organization: ( If you are interested in watching the explanation of the questions: https://www.loom.com/share/f0c68b5b44bd491ca1f254a308e4dc46)

  1. Why did you take out a PPP loan for $4.43 million when the organization has over $21 million net assets?

  2. Can you give us a little more information on why the Independent contractor with the largest expense was University of Hawaii (Physician/Admin Compensation) for $7 million?

  3. Why are so many board members making money with related companies to the organization? Maybe a conflict of interest?

  4. $155,561 for service consultant to a family member of a current director?? Maybe another conflict of interest?

  5. Tell us more about your relationship with the University of Hawaii John Burns School of Medicine?

We reached out to the University Clinical Education & Research Associates in order to ask them about these alarming points we came across but  they never responded for a comment.

In conclusion, University Clinical Education & Research Associates should give the money back just like Fortune 500 companies did, but with a twist. Half going back to the government and the other half going back to Building Blocks for Kids. Bank of Hawaii can give back any revenue made (penalty should double that amount) for creating this loan. Not sure what the government will do with their half, yet BBFK knows exactly what we will do with our portion.

Building Blocks for Kids would get a total amount of $2,215,000. Here is how that breakdown of that money will look like:

  • $25,000 towards our website.

  • $2,190,000 for 73 classrooms in Hawaii

    • Helping 73 teachers, over 2,000 students with financial literacy and career discovery education for a full year. To learn more about the BBFK: MORE Program visit: https://bbfkids.org/
