Scholarship Essay Competition
In collaboration with Bank of the Sierra, Building Blocks for Kids will be awarding 3 scholarships for the prize amount of $250!
Eligibility Requirements:
Essays must be written by a student CURRENTLY attending Fillmore High School
Essays must be submitted online by email, by 11:59 PM on November 16 2020.
Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized entries will be rejected.
Part 1: Research 5 Careers you are interested in
Where are the jobs located (how much taxes do you need to pay in the state)?
What focus of study complements these careers and which schools offer them?
Why are these jobs interesting to you?
What is the annual salary in this position at a specific company?
Dig deeper into the functions and responsibilities of your favorite one.
Briefly reflect on what you’ve learned from your research (max 150 words).
Part 2: Write Letter to your future self (250 - 500 words)
Please write a clear and concise letter to your future self outlining your current ambitions and goals. Include specific careers (their key skills and responsibilities) , colleges, and courses of study.
Elaborate on how you envision using financial literacy in the future.
Part 3: Video Response
For the third part of this application, applicants are required to submit a video response that addresses the following components:
Talk about the 5 jobs/industries you researched
Briefly mention the expected annual income for each of the job positions
Choose one you like the most and elaborate on the responsibilities needed to perform this job
What was your most valuable takeaway from the program? In other words, what lesson did you learn?
Say: “We can do more together!”
Video requirements:
Make sure the camera is in landscape mode.
Please be in a quiet room, with a good lighting source if possible.
Around 2.5 minutes long.
Judging criteria:
Story telling - Conveying the narrative of your research and why it matters to you.
Research effort - Thoroughly describing the careers that interest you, and expanding on their responsibilities.
Passion - How does your energy and enthusiasm for your professional future shine through with integrity and maturity? Did you have fun making the video?
